Youth Sports Games

About the campaign “Zero Waste – Be part of the game – Let’s protect our planet”

As the largest amateur sports event in Europe, Plazma Youth Sports Games recognizes the power of its platform. It’s not just about promoting healthy lifestyle habits, but also about contributing to sustainable development. We firmly believe that children, young people, and communities throughout Croatia, Bosnia, and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Slovenia are the driving force in this mission. Together, we can enhance sustainable practices and protect our environment through the project’ Zero Waste – Be part of the game – Let’s protect our planet’.

The ‘Zero Waste’ campaign is not just about education; it’s about having fun and getting active. It’s a unique, creative way to learn, combining play, sports, and interactive education. The campaign invites children and young people to join in the excitement at the educational training ground.

In the first part of the education, our experienced moderator will present educational modules: air and water (types and sources of pollutants, methods and protection against pollution), Planet Earth, biodiversity and climate change, and waste (recycling, understanding the importance of waste management, application of non-hazardous waste in the production of the new subject). Through an educational quiz, the moderator encourages young people to use logical conclusions to find the causes and solutions to the problems of sustainable development.

The second part includes a green YSG polygon composed of motor tasks whose primary theme is waste recycling. The concept of the competition consists of 8 to 12 teams competing on the field in a relay race format. The task is to guide the ball around the obstacles to the storage area for bottles, cans, and paper, take one package, and return it to the starting position where they have to insert the package into the designated recycling container. The fastest and most dexterous teams win commemorative diplomas.

The project’s goal is to develop environmental awareness among children and young people. It aims to develop a responsible attitude towards the environment and a willingness to preserve living and non-living nature. The project observes that man is a part of nature, that he needs it to survive, and that he uses it to satisfy his needs for movement and play. It encourages the creative use of materials from everyday life, promotes physical activity, and organizes sports events.

In our efforts, together with our partner Coca-Cola, we are implementing the program “Zero Waste – Be part of the game – Let’s protect our planet” for the third year in a row throughout Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Slovenia. With this campaign, Coca-Cola wants to contribute to the most positive environmental impact and provide solutions to packaging challenges, per the multi-year project World without Waste.

The creative method of education through the project “Zero Waste – Be a part of the game – Let’s protect our planet” was also recognized by the Croatian Association for Public Relations and was awarded the silver Grand Prix in 2023 in the category Institutions, associations and organizations, which was also the highest awarded award in that category.
