Telemach Sports Day started an extensive tour in Sisak

More than 2,000 children of primary school age gathered in the Zeleni Brijeg hall in Sisak for the big sports and educational Telemach Sports Day.

Encouraging a sports lifestyle, inclusion, tolerance, and socializing among children and young people has been on the agenda for 28 years at the Plazma Youth Sports Games. For the third year in a row, dodgeball and athletics competitions have been held as part of the Telemach Sports Day. Dodgeball is one of the most popular disciplines of the Games this season, and as many as 50 teams competed in Sisak. The best teams and athletes travel to Rijeka at the end of July for the big National Finals.

The young athletes in Sisak received strong support from community leaders, including the mayor, Kristina Ikić Baniček, Ana Miličević, director of marketing communications of Telemach, Renata Čupić, director of corporate communications of Telemach Hrvatska, Marko Krička, President of the Union of Sports Associations of the City of Sisak and Deputy Mayor and, Emir Fetibegović, secretary of the Union of Sports Associations in the city of Sisak.

The mayor of Sisak, Kristina Ikić Baniček, greeted those present and said: “As always, a wonderful atmosphere and excellent organization. Youth sports games are even more numerous and even better this year. We wished all the young athletes a lot of success, and as we could see, they couldn’t wait for the competition to start. We hope for continued cooperation and more children in the hall next year.”

“As a socially responsible company, Telemach works dedicatedly to encourage healthy lifestyle habits through recreation, socialization, and healthy competition in sports, striving to encourage children and young people to engage in activities that represent the basis of proper growth and development. In addition to the more prominent, medal-crowned sports, we support other sports and are a proud multi-year gold sponsor of the Youth Sports Games. We believe that children are the drivers of the future and that every childhood we make more active means a step towards creating a healthier, happier, and more successful society. We will continue to support the young generation in developing their potential through sports, thereby building the foundations for a positive and prosperous future,” said Ana Miličević.

David Burburan, the competition director, greeted the Plazma Youth Sports Games attendees: “It’s wonderful that you gathered in such numbers and recognized Telemach Sports Day as an opportunity to socialize, play, and compete. We will continue to ensure that children and young people have the chance to grow and develop through sports and socializing through the Plazma Youth Sports Games. Have fun today, and be fair to your teammates and opponents. We look forward to meeting all of you at the National Finals in Rijeka.”

The ceremonial program of the Telemach Sports Day began with the lighting of the torch brought by young athletes led by Dominik Maričević and Ivan Čička, OK Sisak volleyball players and cadet national team members.

Children competed in athletics and dodgeball in two categories: category 2013 and younger, and category 2015 and younger. As a trendy discipline, dodgeball stood out, as it encourages socializing and inclusion through the competition of mixed teams, boys and girls.

The most skilled team in dodgeball was the Vatrena Lipa team in the 2015 category and younger and the team Ribari 3b in the 2013 category and younger. The fastest runners in the 2013 and younger category are Nikol Čačić and Lovren Brdar, and in the 2015 category and younger, Julija Nekić and Tom Kotenjko, who deservedly won gold medals.

As part of the event, representatives of the Sisak-Moslavina PU educated the children as part of the National Road Traffic Safety Program. Representatives of the Red Cross of Sisak and all present had a great time in the EON corner.

This year’s Telemach Sports Day after Sisak will visit all counties in Croatia and hold 29 sports and educational events. The project was conceived based on sports games, which put competition on the back burner and encouraged socializing, tolerance, and inclusion.

Plazma Youth Sports Games, the largest amateur sports event in Europe, offers elementary and high school-aged children the opportunity to compete in 10 sports disciplines (Coca-Cola Cup in football, Tommy tournament in futsal, Kinder tournament in street basketball, HEP tournament in handball, MIS volleyball tournament, PAKET24 Cup in tennis, table tennis, beach volleyball tournament, FIDE chess tournament, dodgeball and athletics).

More than 110,000 children and young people will gather in Croatia alone for the 28th season of the Plazma Youth Sports Games.
